A roadside station located in the almost exact center of the northernmost three prefectures of the Tohoku region. The facility has a restaurant serving kiritanpo toasted mashed rice skewers and other local dishes, a cafeteria serving set meals, and a soba noodle stall, as well as a shop selling local specialty products and a farm fresh shop selling local agricultural products. Classes on making kiritanpo, yosegi-zaiku wood marquetry, and other local dishes and crafts are held here, as well. There’s an exhibit displaying some of the gorgeous floats used in the Hanawabayashi festival, and tourist information is also provided here.

ロの字型の建物で、中庭を囲んでお土産物屋さんやレストランなどが並んでいます。産直品を売るいちばコーナーでは名物のバター餅や野菜、果物とその加工品など手ごろなお値段で売っていました。きりたんぽ発祥の地だそうで、きりたんぽづくりの体験もできるようです。

ツアーのオプショナルランチで利用しました。「八幡平ポーク陶板焼き膳」1320円を頂きました。雪だったので、熱い料理が美味しかったです。豚すき焼きの味でした。蕎麦屋、きりたんぽ屋、農産物直売、お土産物屋があります。

大湯環状石を見る前にランチで利用した。大きな道の駅だが、その中できりたんぽは鹿角が発祥の地と知り、小さな食堂できりたんぽ鍋セット￥１０００を注文した。手作りにこだわった材料はどれもおいしかった。
