The year is 1857, staged in old Japan. The country is inhabited by thousands of people, taking on a variety of cultures and mentalities. However, an ongoing struggle for power has erupted during the past 50 years between the renown Ninja and Samurai groups. Bordering the Southern parts of Japan, the Samurai dwell in peace and prosperity. That is, until the Ninja stirred from the depths of Northern Japan, seeking to overcome the Samurai and someday vanquish them as revenge for an ancient battle fought long ago.

Players who come to Joukai: The Pure Land will have the ability to choose to side with either the Ninja or Samurai groups and have the ability to fight it out whichever way they see fit. Everything from the items, armor, weapons, and map are realistic. The armor and weapons that players use are all real weapons that ancient Ninja and Samurai have used in battle. So, for those who are ancient classical Japan fans, they can be at home and be able to identify all weapon and armor items.
