Takaoka Mikurumayama Festival

Event
The huge Takaoka Mikurumayama Festival has been held by Takaoka Sekino Shrine since the Sengoku period. It has been classified as an Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property, an Intangible Folk Cultural Property, and registered as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. Seven ornately decorated floats parade down the heart of the old town of Takaoka to the elegant sound of the festival musicians, encasing the town in a spectacular atmosphere. Seeing the seven floats together in one place is breathtaking and draws bustling crowds every year. Delicate craftwork with lacquer, gold, and woven textiles decorate these splendid floats that everyone should see.
