Etchu Owara Kaze-no-Bon
Event
A historic festival held in Yatsuo-machi, Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture from September 1 to 3. The origins of the festival date back to 1702 when officials from Yatsuo returned from Kaga Domain with a building permit and partied in the streets for three days and three nights. Today it is a harvest festival praying for calm winds; the songs and dances of the festival haven't changed in over 300 years. Festival highlights include the machi-nagashi, a parade in which 11 groups take different routes through the city dancing to traditional music while wearing matching robes and conical hats; and the wa-odori, in which primarily local dance groups dance in a circle.
