Goryokaku Park

Event
Goryokaku is a star-shaped fort in Hakodate City, Hokkaido that was built in 1866 to defend Japan’s northern territories, and which has been designated a Special Historic Site. The area inside the moat has been developed as a park, and is a famous place for viewing cherry blossom. Between late April and early May, around 1,600 Yoshino cherry trees bloom together inside the walls and on the outer bank of the moat, turning the whole area cherry-pink; many people enjoy strolling along the paths in the Park, or renting a boat on the moat, to view the cherry blossom. Toilets, and parking is available nearby.
